Paris 2007, I did it again!

For the second time in a row I have run the Paris Marathon. I had trained pretty well but a bad injury on my ankle did slow me down. So my time is just a little bit better that last year: 4:17.

I hope to run it next year for the third time and at last manage to go under the 4 hours.

I have got some photos form Paris (I bought them so I am not breaking any copyright law here)

This is the start on the Champs Elise:

As you can see I look confident, relax, ...., hummm

And my friend Richard looks great:

I eventually did it!

I have run the Paris marathon in 4h 19 minutes i.e. an average speed of 9.8 km/h.

I think that I started too hard. I ran the half marathon in 1h 56 minutes and I was feeling well until the 35th kilometers. I was there in 3h 25 minutes. The 7 last kilometers were very hard. But I did it! I now know that I need to focus on a training to improve my overall resistance.

Otherwise, My legs were very hurting on Monday and yesterday but today I am feeling much better. I just went running 1 hour just for gently recovering.

I need now to decide which one will be the next: NY, Venice or or … Stay tuned.

The last long run

Today was my last long run before starting the compulsory resting period. So, I ran 11 kilometers in 1 hour. I am starting to feel the benefits of all this hard training. If only I had two or three more weeks in front of me.

So, I am now resting i.e. I will go for only two or three light runs before the race. This is just to lightly reinforce the training benefits without tiring my legs.

So, keep in touch, I think that the next post will be about the race.

BTW, The Paris Marathon offers a cool feature: they can send SMS to two numbers with your time at the 20th 30th kilometer and when you cross the finish line (if so). I have configured it to send a SMS to my Blog fan (there is actually only a person that I know for sure reads all the posts of this blog).

Half marathon

I did a half marathon this weekend in Dublin.

I did not push too hard but I did it in an average of 9.6 km/h, 148 bpm.

It looks good, I should mange to run the marathon in less than 4h 15.

good progress.

I am making good progress. I just ran 11 km in one hour. I can feel the benefit of my diet. I can’t say that I do not miss cheeses, butter and “saucisson” but I really think that the day after the Marathon I’ll go for a kind “fondue” :)

Focus on diet

This week wasn’t a good training week. I was still recovering from a throat infection so that may explain that I only ran 27 km.

I am now feeling much better. Moreover I bought some isotonic powder drink that can be dissolved into cold water. This is very efficient to maximize energy and fluid replacement.

This help when training and in conjunction with my new Marathon diet I should somehow be ready. Basically I am concentrating on carbohydrate and getting rid of fat. Another important think is that I now drink 2 to 3 litters of mineral water per day.

At least I will have done everything humanly possible to finish this marathon.
